This entirely vegan café is one of Brighton's oldest and only independent autonomous community spaces, run entirely by volunteers. The menu features daily soups and dishes at affordable prices, alongside handmade chocolates and regular special events like pancake breakfasts and vegan roasts. The space doubles as a bookshop and library focused on anarchist literature, with a bar for members and a strong emphasis on grassroots community values.
Why we think it's family friendly
We love that the Cowley Club combines affordable, wholly vegan food with outdoor seating and step-free access, making it genuinely inclusive for families with young children or pushchairs. Beyond the café, kids benefit from the library and book browsing space, while the volunteer-run ethos and community focus create a relaxed, unpretentious environment where families can linger without pressure.
